A lecturer with the University of Lagos identified as Afeez
Baruwa, has landed in trouble when he could not control his rampaging libido
and decided to rape an 18-year-old girl seeking
admission into the school.
Baruwa
reportedly raped the girl in
a study room at the main campus of the university after he had promised to help
her get an admission.
The
naughty lecturer who has been arrested by police officers attached to the
Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3, however told the police that girl
is his girlfriend and that the sex was mutual as he did not force her to have
intercourse with him.
It was
gathered that the lecturer is a known face to the girl's family as he and her
father are landlords at Abesan Estate, Ipaja area of the state, and it was this
closeness that convinced the girl's father to hand her over to him to help her
secure admission.
But
contrary to the cordial relationship the father thought existed between him and
Baruwa, the lecturer had another need for the girl as he allegedly took the
girl inside one of the study halls, bolted the door, and raped her, warning her
never to tell anyone or she would not get the admission she so craved.
The girl
later told her father about the rape and her parents took her to the Mirabel
Center, a Non-Governmental Organisation, which decided to take up the case. A
medical examination was also conducted on the teenager which showed she had
been sexually violated.
One of
the police officers handling the case narrated said:
“The suspect is actually a friend of the father of the girl. The
girl had written the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, and she needed
assistance with the post-UTME. So, the father sent her to meet and discuss with
the lecturer.
But, it turned out that on July 23 when the girl visited the
suspect, he raped the girl in the study room. The suspect confessed to the act,
but his claim is that the sex was by mutual consent.”
